Hello dear colleagues,
The CAVEWAS board of directors has had the pleasure of participating in a series of consultations with ESDC on the development of the Canadian Rating Guide (CRG), which is the source document for the ratings found in the OaSIS. We recently had the opportunity to review the CRG’s Knowledge section and had a meeting today with ESDC to go over our recommendations. These included:
- To provide clearer examples to better distinguish complexity and depth levels of knowledge factors. This is critical to help the VE understand the meaning of ratings assigned in each occupational profiles.
- Reassigning the complexity levels of certain example occupations to better reflect the Canadian labour market.
- The opportunity was taken to recommend ESDC to add an SVP (Specific Vocational Preparation) factor in the OaSIS, which not only capture educational requirements of occupations but also the amount of practical experience required to reach average proficiency. This element is currently found in the American O*NET but is not in the OaSIS or the NOC.
We expect the next section reviewed will be the Skills and Abilities, which are crucial elements in assessing occupational suitability. Further updates will be posted here. In the meantime, I encourage you to post your questions or comments!
