    Hi

I am looking for a level A rated measure of achievement.  Preferably one that can be done virtually.  Is anyone aware of this tool?

    Hello Peter,

To my knowledge,  all academic achievement tests require level B qualifications, but perhaps someone will prove me wrong on this. Good luck and let us know if you find something!

Found one. 🙂  Also, consider using Essential Skills questionnaires that are free through HRSDC still.  They will become Skills for Success and a host of resources including osme questionnaires are available.  ES measures worker functions in foundational skills.  Some of those include language and numeracy.

The achievement measure I found cannot be administered virtually.  Also found a level A aptitude that gives VN and reasoning.  More an intelligence test.  The point in asking at outset was to develop a level A qualification vc evl for employment counsellors as part of their service capacity.  With training, this can now be done.

Hello Peter. Glad you found something suitable for level A. It would be helpful to know which level A aptitude test you are referring to.

I had been considering the TOWES for some time, as a replacement for the WRAT-5. I am not overly fond of using grade equivalents, especially in the mid range (i.e. grade 6-9), as it makes interpretation harder. The TOWES had the advantage of directly correlating to essential skill profiles in the NOC and the IALS scale but now, these profiles are being replaced by the Skills for Success framework and I think we’ll have to wait for new tests to be developed. I believe Bow Valley College has been commissioned to develop a new test for Skills for Success but that may take another couple years.

    Hi Francois

    It takes 90 minutes.

CAST – Canadian Achievement Survey Tests for Adults

The TOWES is a fairly expensive test IMHO.

That’s interesting Peter. I was not aware of this test. I visited their website but could not find when the norming was done. It is stated that this is an achievement test for adults but the norming was done with a sample of 16 000 senior high-school students. Have you used it? How does it compare with other tests like the WRAT-5?

An alternative to the TOWES is OECD’s online survey of adult skills (https://www.oecd.org/skills/piaac/onlineassessmment/) but I have not tried it yet. Besides, Skills for Success will use a different scale I think.
